Acupuncture

Acupuncture originated in China and has been practised in the East for thousands of years. Discover an effective and holistic approach to health and wellbeing.

Discover the Benefits

Acupuncture is founded on the principle that our health is dependent on the state of our vital energy or 'Qi'. When our Qi is strong and balanced, our body functions smoothly but if the Qi becomes weak, imbalanced or blocked, sickness, pain and malaise arise with a variety of symptoms and conditions.

By inserting very fine needles into specific places on the body – known as acupuncture points – one’s Qi can be rebalanced. As part of our acupuncture treatments we may also use moxibustion, cupping, and massage techniques to further restore balance and optimal wellbeing.

  • "I'm so happy to share that I can walk again. I haven’t been able to for months because of the fibromyalgia. I’ve been able to reduce my blood pressure and quit the medication."

  • "Many thanks for all your help. The treatments have helped me to feel better in myself, as well as provide effective relief from the pain I was in."

What to Expect

The initial acupuncture consultation lasts 90 minutes and includes your first treatment. The aim is to get a full picture of the condition(s) you are seeking treatment for, and of your health generally, including your medical history, medication etc. so as to discern the underlying imbalances which may be causing the symptoms you present with. We will take your pulse on both wrists, and may ask to look at your tongue - traditional diagnostic methods which give valuable indications of the treatment required. This information will guide your initial acupuncture treatment ensuring it is personalised to your particular situation.

  • In follow-up consultations (60 minutes), we will review progress to date, tracking changes in your symptoms and identifying any other issues which need addressing, followed by an acupuncture treatment tailored to your needs at that time.

The number of treatments required will vary depending on the person and the condition(s) being addressed. We usually recommend a series of 6 sessions, ideally scheduled at weekly intervals to begin with.

How it Helps

We see people with a wide range of medical conditions including musculoskeletal problems, digestive and respiratory disorders, menstrual and menopausal disturbances; infertility, headaches and migraines, cancer (active or in remission), anxiety and depression, and just plain old fatigue or burnout.

In recent years, we have also been asked to treat a lot of conditions arising from or exacerbated by the Covid pandemic, including long-Covid. Most of our patients come through word of mouth because over the years, we have developed a reputation for providing successful treatment when other approaches have not worked.
